Poland introduces electronic monitoring of freight forwarders from non-EU countries

20 August 2024

Starting in November 2024, Polish authorities will implement a system of mandatory electronic registration for shipments carried out by companies from non-EU countries. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of the Republic, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, informed reporters about this.

The electronic registration of such shipments will come into effect in November.

“To meet the expectations of Polish freight carriers, we are expediting the implementation of electronic registration for shipments carried out by transport companies from third countries outside the European Union,” said the minister. According to him, this measure will enable Polish authorities to combat unfair competition in the transport sector.

Since November 2023, Polish transport companies have repeatedly staged protests, blocking border crossings to Ukraine. They demanded the abolition of the benefits that the EU had introduced for their Ukrainian counterparts. In June 2024, the European Union extended the agreement on the liberalization of freight transport with Kyiv for another year.
